  I want to Yantu!

The Yantu Project aimed to raise scholarships for Mainland Chinese students to
study at the United World College of the Atlantic.

Atlantic College aims to promote international understanding by letting 300
students from around the world live, study and undertake community services
together for a two-year period whilst they study the International
Baccalaureate, a worldwide recognised university entry exam.

Admission to Atlantic College depends on scholarships, but there are not many
scholarships available for Mainland Chinese students. The Yantu Project raised
US$88,620 for Mainland Chinese students, enough for two full two-year
  scholarships.

In August 2001 we sent Jin Zhou from
  Guangdong Experimental Middle School to
  Atlantic College. He performed exceptionally
well academically and was awarded a
scholarship to study Economics at Harvard
starting in the fall of 2003. The summer
before going to Harvard he organised for a
From left to right: Jin Zhou, group of 30 Atlantic College graduates to
Christian Havrehed, Wang Hui teach English in Sichuan Province, China,
thereby raising money for supporting the
    education of Chinese orphans.

In Jin Zhou's own words: "I now have friends from more than 60 countries all
over the world. For my whole life, I will always remember and appreciate
everything in Atlantic College, a place to make a difference, both to myself and
  to the outside world."

In August 2002 we sent Wang Hui, also from Guangdong Experimental Middle
School, to Atlantic College. Wang is also academically very gifted and contributes
significantly to the community service and college life. He has even put on a play
for the British Education Minister! Wang Hui comments:

"I still remember the time when I received my enrolment with full scholarship
letter from AC. It's so exhilarating that I hardly slept that night. I was just too
excited to avoid all kinds of thoughts and fall asleep.

AC's programs really help me to discover other fresh aspects of the world and
achieve lifelong commitment. Meanwhile, it's also pleasant to study here. Not
only because of kindness, patience and the sense of humour, contributed by the
teaching staff, but also it provides me a comfortable and delightful environment
  for studies.

Yes, though it might not feel good to be thousands of miles away from home,
still I consider it worth, as I have been learning what I have never learnt before
and experiencing another sort of life, which will be unforgettable in my lifetime."
